Recipe for a Room: business coaching for interior designers
If you are an interior designer looking to develop your business, can I urge you to take an in-depth look at business coach and mentor Julia Begbie's website, Recipe for a Room >>>
Julia provides business coaching specifically tailored for interior designers.
I don't need to remind you of the pressures of running a small business. If you're a sole trader it can certainly be a lonely old route. But even if you manage a firm of employees, the constant onus to keep improving, keep innovating, keep fostering both creative and business skills, and just to remain sane in a rapidly changing arena can be a heavy one. Engaging the services of a business coach is not a sign that one is struggling. Rather, it is an indication of a commitment to "show up" for one's business, a willingness to invest in nurturing and developing your business's identity, its goals and aspirations. And it is so hard to embark on this journey solo! A good business coach should be able to help guide you through this process with support and empathy, but they will also bring the necessary objectivity to ask the questions which need to be asked and challenge business owners to really rise to their full potential.
Julia is all of these things. She runs regular business "Bootcamp" programs for groups of designers and also offers one to one coaching and mentoring. Looking forward to 2025, she is launching a very exciting scheme called "Hothouse", which aims to assist interior design businesses in defining and attaining their unique goals, whether that's as ambitious as increasing their turnover or as simple as developing greater confidence in their skillset. It's completely free to participants.
If you do one thing for your interior design business this year, check out what she has to offer.

Smartphone and DSLR Photography courses for interior designers with Jenny Kaye
Jenny Kaye is an accomplished portrait photographer based in the UK . She also runs courses in smartphone and DSLR photography. In particular, she offers regular courses for interior designers who are looking to record their projects for social media etc, in conjunction with the BIID (British Institute of Interior Design). Her courses provide a great way to get to know your phone or camera in a relaxed setting, with time allowed for practical exercises and helpful feedback. She also provides headshot and personal branding photography, a must for any small business looking to establish their presence online. I strongly recommend checking out her website and Instagram account to find out more about the many ways she can assist small business owners in particular.
